How Machines Are Evaluated
Each machine is scored independently across 7 criteria using official specifications, industry publications, operator accounts, and third-party reviews. We do not conduct hands-on testing.
No commercial relationships exist with any manufacturer. Scores and rankings are earned through data, not influenced by sponsorship or marketing relationships.
Scoring Rubric
Each criterion is scored 0–10, then weighted to produce an overall score:

Why This Weighting?
Consistency and accuracy carry the highest weight because they directly impact brand reputation and customer experience. A machine that produces inconsistent j*ints damages margins through returns and complaints, even if it's cheaper upfront.
Throughput and TCO are equally weighted because different operators prioritize differently: high-volume operations care about per-unit cost; premium brands care about quality. Both matter.
Support is weighted lower because it's easier to evaluate and communicate, but still important for operations with limited technical staff.
Data Sources
We use a triangulated approach:
- Manufacturer specifications: Official datasheets and product pages.
- Industry publications: MJBizDaily, mg Magazine, Cannabis & Tech Today for third-party coverage.
- Community forums: Future4200, Reddit, THCFarmer for operator experiences and pain points.
- Operator accounts: Direct reports from dispens*ry owners and production managers.
When sources conflict, we flag it. When claims can't be independently verified, we note that in the review.
Category Badges
Machines also receive category badges based on their distinct strengths, independent of overall ranking:

- Best Value: Best price-to-feature ratio
- Most Format-Flexible: Widest range of supported formats
- Best Entry-Level: Lowest barrier to automation

Commercial relationships: The Roller's Guide has no commercial relationships with any manufacturer. We are not paid for reviews, sponsored content, or product placement. Rankings are not influenced by advertising or affiliate relationships.
Operator feedback: When we cite operator accounts, we source from public forums and published interviews, not paid testimonials.
Updates: We review and update rankings monthly as new machines launch, prices change, or new operator data emerges.
Limitations
This guide does not:
- Conduct hands-on testing or lab analysis
- Recommend specific machines for specific operations (too many variables)
- Cover illegal markets or unlicensed operations
- Review consumer pre-roll devices or hand-rolling aids
